Making Room for What Matters: Faith, Family, and the Legacy We Live
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to live with intention.
Between building my business, showing up in my community, spending time with family, and creating spaces for women to grow, my days can fill up pretty quickly. I’m grateful for the opportunities God has placed in my life. But I’m also learning to pause and ask myself: Am I making room for the things that matter most to me?
That question has been on my heart these past couple of weeks.
I want to be present for the life I’m working so hard to build. I want the people I love to feel that love. And I want the work I do to reflect what I believe.
The moments we sometimes rush past
Recently, someone shared a memory of her son who has passed away. Along with the photo was a thought about how moments become memories.
It stayed with me.
When we’re in the middle of everyday life, we don’t always realize how much a moment will mean later. A conversation, a family outing, a picture of our children together, or a chance to sit and laugh with someone we love can feel so ordinary at the time.
Then one day, that ordinary moment becomes something we treasure.
As a wife, mother, and grandmother, I’ve been thinking about this even more. There will always be another email to answer, another meeting to schedule, and another task waiting for me. I’m learning to give the people in front of me my attention, too.
I want to enjoy these moments while I’m living them.
The heart behind showing up
This month, participating in Desert Cancer Foundation’s Paint El Paseo Pink reminded me why serving my community means so much to me.
My mom is a cancer survivor. Walking alongside her through the last two years has touched so many parts of my life—how I care for myself, how I think about health, and how I show up for others.
When I support this work, I carry my mom’s journey with me. I also think about the families who are facing uncertainty and need support, encouragement, and someone willing to care.
Seeing our community come together was such a blessing. We exceeded our fundraising goal and distributed more than 2,000 T-shirts. Behind all of that were people coming together around a shared purpose.
It reminded me that we each have something to give. Sometimes it’s our time. Sometimes it’s our voice, our resources, or simply our willingness to show up.
Giving myself permission to make room
I’ve also had to be honest about my capacity.
After careful consideration, I decided to step away from my board seat as I focus on building my financial practice. I’m thankful for the experience and the relationships, and my heart for the mission is still there.
But looking at my upcoming schedule, I knew I couldn’t give that responsibility the time it deserved.
That can be hard to admit when you care deeply and enjoy helping people. I’m learning that being honest about what I can commit to is part of being responsible with my time.
I can appreciate a meaningful season and recognize when it’s time to make a change. I can continue serving while being thoughtful about how I serve.
Growing and staying connected
Something else has been on my heart: the importance of relationships where we feel heard.
I love attending conferences and being around women who are pursuing their goals. There’s something encouraging about having a conversation with someone who understands your excitement, your ideas, and the work it takes to keep going.
Still, even with good relationships in our lives, we can have moments when we feel misunderstood.
I’m learning to pay attention to the connections that allow me to share openly, and to offer that same care to others. Sometimes someone needs us to slow down, listen, and take an interest in what matters to them.
That’s part of why I care so much about creating spaces through Empower & Elevate and Spirit-Led Mornings. I want women to have room to pause, reflect, reconnect with God, and feel supported as they navigate their own seasons.
The legacy we’re living today
All of these experiences keep bringing me back to legacy.
I think about it in the way I love my family, encourage another woman, serve my community, and help a family prepare for the future. I think about it when I choose to be present and when I make a difficult decision about where my time needs to go.
I’m still learning. I’m still growing. And I’m trusting God to guide me as I make room for what He’s placed on my heart.
If you’ve been feeling stretched lately, I hope you’ll take a moment to reflect with me:
What matters most in this season of your life—and does your calendar leave room for it?
You don’t have to figure everything out today. Maybe there’s one conversation you want to have, one commitment you need to reconsider, or one moment you want to enjoy more fully.
For me, that’s where living with intention begins.
With love and purpose,
